Here is the kick-off to my new podcast, called “Anglican Ascetic.”

The focus of the Anglican Ascetic Podcast is prayer life in the Anglican tradition—a tradition rooted in the New Testament Church, and its sub-apostolic and patristic eras, which became manifest when the womb of the Upper Room went Boom.

I am calling this my “Pilot Season,” because it will probably take me a number of episodes to truly get this boat off the shore and into a proper mode of sailing. Down the road I will invite guests to appear on the podcast, and there will be many, many topics this podcast touches on and covers having to do with Anglican prayer life, which of course means Christian prayer life.

Nonetheless, while this is an austere and simple start, I did bring to this episode what I hope you think is substantive material—the Venerable S. Bede, who is my favorite Church Father.

As well as this prayer:

O Holy and ever blessed Spirit, Who didst overshadow the Holy Virgin-Mother of our Lord, and caused her to conceive by the miraculous and mysterious manner; be pleased to overshadow our souls, and enlighten our spirit, that we may conceive the holy Jesus in our heart, and may bear Him in our mind, and may grow up to the fullness of the stature of Christ, to be perfect in Christ Jesus. Amen.

(Blessed Jeremy Taylor, Bishop and Confessor, d. 1667)

Hope you like the podcast, and please let me know what you think in the comments, after not only this episode but all episodes. I want to develop a robust discussion with those who subscribe to Anglican Ascetic and support my public ministry.
