CHAPTER 3: MEMBERS OF CHRIST (part 3)
We must, however, not exaggerate the character of the divine indwelling. He does not take the place of the human spirit in us as in the hypostatic union of the eternal Son with the sacred humanity of Jesus, not does He inspires us with a private and plenary inspiration so that all our ideas and movements are from Him; He is God and we are still human. It is necessary to remind ourselves of this because many people when they believe a particular course of action to be right are equally sure that that and nothing else is the will of God made clear to them by the inspiration of the Holy Ghost, whereas it may be nothing more than their own self-will. The movement of the indwelling Spirit is not by way of plenary inspiration and an automatic control of the human spirit; we will have our own minds which may make mistakes and our own wills with which we may make the wrong choice. The Holy Spirit directs, strengthens, and sanctifies us, but He does not abrogate any part of our humanity.
