Here's an announcement!
During Lent, I will be posting extended excerpts of Fr Harton's superb devotional book, Life In Christ. Excerpts will be posted twice weekly, and will start on Ash Wednesday.
Why this book, you might be wondering. Firstly, because it is excellently written. I recently discovered it and was floored by how accessible, rich, and thoroughly prayerful it is. Take a look at the Table of Contents:
These are all excellent topics for all Christians to reflect on, because these are so fundamental to orthodox-catholic Christian life. And Lent is the perfect season to reflect on Christian fundamentals, the building blocks of our relationship with Jesus Christ through the Holy Ghost.
Anglican priests, especially those who were trained at Nashotah House, fondly regard Fr Harton, because one of his other texts, The Elements of the Spiritual Life, is an essential text for pastoral ministry in Anglican parishes.
Life in Christ, published in 1937, sadly appears to have been lost to history, which is frustratingly all too common for many Anglican texts, and especially those written prior to the Second World War. That was a golden time for Anglican theological and ecclesiastical writing, most people do not know. But because WWII and the aftermath were so tumultuous and social upheaval so massive, much got lost, and in the case of theological texts, many books were not reprinted, and therefore forgotten.
So, we are bringing awareness of this wonderful book back! The posting here will be not of the entire book, but of extended excerpts. I hope this makes for edifying and enriching reading to support your Lent prayer life.
Access will be for subscribers only. So if you are not a subscriber, let me invite you to become one.
